The Base NY team went on a journey last Friday to visit a Base friend, and artist, Randy Moore. Randy invited the team to his studio as a thank you to Base for their ‘chewy’ contributions toward his artwork.
For more on that, click here.
To add to the adventure, the trip was kept a secret from most of the team until Randy opened the door to his studio to invite everyone in.
The adventure started at the Base NY studio, and included a ride on the J train, a walk through the financial district, a Water Taxi ride across the East River…

Geoff Cook in Moscow. Day 4 (part II) : “Brands are Like People” Speech at Digital October

The grand finale: Base partner Geoff Cook and head of digital, Martin Bravo talk at Digital October on brand x technology. The presentation, “Brands Are Like People,” can be viewed at the bottom of this page in its entirety.

After a midday regroup, we set out for the final event. Due to rush hour traffic, we decided to take the subway to Digital October. The station let us out at the foot of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior. The history of the church is fascinating. Initially built in 1860 by order of Alexander I, the church was ordered torn down by Stalin in 1930. In its place, Stalin had wanted to construct an administrative center and congress hall called the Palace of the Soviets . However, as the church sits on the bank of the Moscow river, the ground would not support the proposed structure, so the grounds sat empty until under Khrushchev the largest open air swimming pool in the world was built. Given the climate, the pool proved a bit impractical and in 1990 the church was rebuilt as an exact replica of the original with donations from over 1 million Moscovites. It is (obviously) stunning.

“Gutenberg re-engineered”

Editorial | 04/17/13 | add a comment...

Marteen Van der Ende is a Dutch photographer based in Switzerland. The MB&F M.A.D. Gallery presents an exhibition of his latest work, “Gutenberg re-engineered”. As lovers of printed matter and having collaborated with MB&F for many years, we must recommend this event.

Maarten has chosen the world of printing as the subject for this fantastic photographic showpiece – and the exhibition title is a neat tip of the hat to Johannes Gutenberg, the 15th century pioneer of the printing press. “Gutenberg re-engineered” is a series of beautifully captured images of machinery and tools from the realm of printing.
