Work | 04/9/12 | add a comment...

Following the near immediate and astonishing success of the Children’s Museum of the Arts, we went to talk to its executive director, Dave Kaplan about what he, his dedicated team, and an inspired board of trustees did to turn a community arts program into a thriving institution. In the segment, we touch upon the process that we underwent with CMA to construct a high-impact, lasting visual identity that can for budgetary reasons be adopted and utilized by an army of freelance designers and volunteers.

El micromecenazgo en la cultura

Editorial | 04/5/12 | add a comment...

English summary: Internet and the economic context have forced the cultural industry to find alternatives for financing new projects and businesses. Crowdfunding is the logical answer for projects without corporate or institutional financial support, enabling creators in an independent manner to produce or, at times, allow the public’s participation in creation processes.

Geoff Cook’s Report from TechStars, Weeks 1-3

Work | 03/30/12 | add a comment...

For those of you who are not regulars in Silicon Valley or Alley, TechStars is a leading “startup accelerator program.” In layman’s terms, TechStars works with tech companies who are in their very initial stages of life over a period of three months to prepare them for venture capital funding. More selective than NYC nursery schools (which as we all know are themselves more discerning than the Ivy League), the TechStars program receives thousands of applications but only accepts about 12 companies per regional class (New York, Boston, Boulder, Seattle and “Cloud” in San Antonio). … more

English summary: A few months ago Base designed the new website of the Living Labs Global Awards to urban solutions for cities, as part of its identity redesign. The website-container brings really clever projects such as a gumdrop bin, a sustainable dance floor or a giant game in the city. Discover them all on llga.org.

… more

Fashion branding revisited: Stanley and Stella

Work | 03/20/12 | add a comment...

The era of fashion only being branded through the traditional media, such as print, TV, and in-store is over. Fashion is merging into online branding, creating new, innovative branding techniques along the way.

Some brands became icons because of their offline branding techniques (campaign, TV, print), but due to the Internet revolution, a lot of traditional companies had to reinvent themselves. They had two choices; either expand their brand online. Burberry, the heritage British brand has fully taken this opportunity and found itself digitally reborn. They created a seamlessly blended content (artofthetrench.com, tweetwalk, …) and e-commerce website, which made this brand the leader in innovation.

Other brands created a new online identity. Asos, for example, launched a enormous online webshop which is now referred to as the Facebook for fashion. In both cases, they were confronted with a whole new platform, a huge demand for user-friendly, online shopping experiences and constantly changing customer needs. The challenge to be different among the fashion mass and retain the fashionistas’ digital attention is bigger than ever. … more

Dear generation “Y”,

We have all heard about “the end of print” and it is indeed probably going to happen! However, if you have a “collectors” heart but not too much money to spend on contemporary art… start collecting artist books! They’re wonderful and important items in an artist career.

A wonderful book came out recently called “Esthétique du livre d’artiste” by Anne Moeglin-Delcroix. Where you will discover little master pieces created between 1960 and 1980.
