The World Architectural Festival (WAF) awarded Barcelona’s Media-ICT building (a Cloud 9 Architects project), as the World Building of the Year 2011 after taking on competition from hundreds of entries. A total of 66 countries from around the world entered into the competition.

Paul Finch, WAF awards director, highlighted that the Media-ICT building – located in the 22@ district in Barcelona –  has excellent green credentials due to the following achievements:

20% CO2 reduction due to the use of district cooling and clean energy.
10% CO2 reduction due to the photovoltaic roof.
55% CO2 reduction due to the dynamic ETFE sun filters.
10% CO2 reduction due to smart sensor energy efficiency.
Totaling in 95% CO2 reduction, the Media-ICT is a NET building.
