The Spring/Summer 2012 edition of São Paulo Fashion Week fashion took place last week and the show I liked the most was from the young and talented fashion designer Pedro Lourenço. The inspiration for the collection was palm trees and Brazilian birds (namely macaws and toucans). Themes that can easily fall into various clichés, Pedro adeptly mixed this Brazilian-ness with super chic straight and structured peaces. The lean and well-edited collection and its excellent styling was presented in an intimate show at Baretto, the bar at the luxurious Fasano Hotel. Lourenco also shows his collections at the Paris Fashion Week and is now the darling of the international press and Lady Gaga, who this past June wore a Lourenco creation in France while promoting her album “Born This Way Only.” 20 years old, he is the designer who best represents the new generation of Brazilian fashion. I’m sure all this success is just the start of what is sure to be an important and enduring career.
