Thomaz Farkas is regarded as one Brazil’s greatest photographers.
He died last week in São Paulo, at 86 years of age. As far as I’m concerned, this is a sad day indeed, but hopefully for many of you, this will be a great discovery. Born in Hungary, Thomaz Farkaz moved with his family to Brazil in 1930. Passionate about the country and photography, Farkas depicted São Paulo, Belo Horizonte, Rio de Janeiro, Bahia and Brasilia (the buildings of Niemeyer) with a loose , unusual, and loaded with personality. Undoubtedly, Farkas shall be regarded as one of the pioneers of modern photography in Brazil.

Thomaz Farkas foi um dos maiores fotografos do Brasil. Ele morreu semana passada em São Paulo, aos 86 anos de idade. Pra mim é uma triste notícia, mas espero que para muitos de vocês, uma grande descoberta. O Thomaz nasceu na Hungria e se mudou com sua família para o Brasil em 1930. Apaixonado pelo país e por fotografia, retratou São Paulo, Belo Horizonte, Rio de Janeiro, Bahia e Brasília (as construções de Niemayer) com um olhar solto, pontos de vista inusitados e muita personalidade .
