BaseLab’s STM Montreal typeface in action

Last year BaseLab was contacted by Montreal-based ad agency Sid Lee to modify a sans-serif typeface for STM (Societé de Transport de Montréal), the transit authority of the city of Montreal. But Joanca at BaseLab thought a custom typeface would better fit their needs—primarily signage, posters, and advertising. And after seeing the preliminary sketches, Sid Lee and STM agreed.

The finished font was unveiled recently and is now doing its thing throughout Montreal. Used mainly in uppercase for a bold presence, the STM Montreal typeface is, as BaseLab says, “designed like a comfortable subway commuter—with plenty of spacing. It’s a human and friendly sans-serif, with rounded corners for a smoother ride.”

STM Montreal is the second typeface BaseLab designed for Sid Lee, the first being for Sid Lee itself. Check it out here.
