For the summer season, the new director of MNCARS (Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia) Manuel Borja-Villel has assembled a unique selection, a “Rewriting” if you will, of the museum’s permanent collection. Borja-Villel, the former director of the MACBA and a well-known cultural authority, has transformed 38 rooms, bought 137 new acquisitions (worth 20 million euros) and recuperated 400 works from the museum’s warehouses specifically for the show. In an effort to bring greater balance to such an exhibition, Borja-Villel has placed special emphasis on photography and cinema, giving them equal billing with painting and sculpture.
For the “Rewriting the collection” exhibition, we created a punctual campaign, entitled the “Museum and Much More,” highlighting the range of work and activities at the Reina Sofia. We reflected the museum’s democratic way in presenting the collection in our design. As opposed to the ever-tempting showcasing of Picassos, Mirós and Dalis, we show all types of work throughout the campaign.
Stay tuned for the larger, all-encompassing communications program we are creating for the Reina Sofia, scheduled to launch this fall.
