For a few days every summer thousands of people converge on the small Belgian town of Werchter, for Rock Werchter, one of the largest music festivals in Europe. The 2008 edition went down over last weekend, on July 3–6, and featured Radiohead, The Chemical Brothers, R.E.M., Neil Young, My Morning Jacket, Sigur Ros, Kings of Leon, dEUS, Beck, Gnarls Barkley, Band of Horses, The Hives, and many others.
Pictured in Flemish newspaper De Morgen on Monday, was another performer, Moby, wearing the shirt we designed for Bozar’s It’s Not Only Rock ‘n’ Roll Baby.
The festival this year partnered with the exhibition, at the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels until September 14, giving festival-goers free entry to the exhibition through July 13, with their Rock Werchter bracelet. The exhibition features the visual work of artists best known for their musical output, and includes contributions by such rockers as Alan Vega, Devendra Banhart, Nick Zinner of Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Kills, David Byrne, and many more. Also included are music videos by Derek Jarman (The Smiths, Throbbing Gristle), Robert Frank (Patti Smith), Wolfgang Tillmans (Pet Shop Boys), and Rhys Chatham (New Order).
We designed the exhibition identity, which includes posters and advertisements, catalog, and buttons.
