BaseLab newspaper, included in the Type Congress gift bag

BaseLab took time out from designing typefaces for Kipling and STM, the public transportation system of Montreal, to go to the Type Congress, in Valencia, Spain, over the weekend of June 20–22. Organized by the ADCV (Association of Designers of the Community of Valencia), the convention was titled “GLOCAL”, and focused on typography and regional alphabets in an era of globalization. Included in the weekend’s program were workshops, exhibitions, and guest speakers including Johannes Bergerhausen (“Decodeunicode: The World’s Writing Systems”), BauerTypes and Linotype (“About Opentype”), Simon Loxley and Frederic Warde, Huda Smitshuijzen AbiFarès (“Typographic Matchmaking: The Role of Arabic Typography on the Contemporary Visual Culture of The Middle East”), Grassa Toro (“When I Read I Hear Voices”), and Gerard Unger (“Leiden’s Letters”).
