It’s Not Only Rock ‘n’ Roll Baby catalog

BOZAR—the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels—will soon host an exhibition focusing on the visual work of artists who are better-known for their contributions in the world of rock and roll. It’s Not Only Rock ’n’ Roll Baby presents little-known work by artists such as Yoko Ono, Patti Smith, Chicks on Speed, The Kills, Pete Doherty, Antony Hegarty, Devendra Banhart, David Byrne, Bryan Ferry, Brian Eno, and Alan Vega, among others, and sheds new light on the relationship between art and music.

Exhibition curator, Jérôme Sans

The project is a collaboration between the Palais des Beaux-Arts and the Werchter rock festival—one of Europe’s largest—and is curated by Jérôme Sans, founder and former director of the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, and current director of the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art in Beijing. The exhibition catalog, designed by Base, contains interviews with most of the exhibiting artists, and is designed as a cross between an art book and a rock magazine, with a bold aesthetic inspired by concert posters. The artists are represented in the catalog as silhouetted icons while artwork images are in color, underlining the contrast between music and art.
